SUMMARY

Since deploying smart technology, Fond du Lac has made significant strides in its operations and saved time and money in the process. The city now takes data-driven actions to mitigate potential issues, ensuring the continued reliability and resilience of its wastewater system.

By monitoring the system in real time and getting ahead of challenges posed by I&I surcharging, the city reduced basement backups, environmental spills, regulatory fines, and community disruptions.

Data generated by the SmartCover monitors has helped the city improve response times and optimize cleaning and inspection schedules and to strategically plan for capital improvements. Reduction in routine cleaning led to less wear and tear on sewer pipes, equipment, and has preserved operators’ time to do other necessary tasks.

The data also is integrated into SmartCover applications that reveal the impact rainfall has on the system. SmartRain uses Doppler radar and local rain gauges for level and flow reports. SmartFLOE is a reliable means for flow measurement and reporting. It produces faster results with lower risks and is more flexible than AV meters.

Fond du Lac’s commitment to embracing innovative technology underscores its dedication to safeguarding city assets and the environment and protecting health and safety of residents.
